This is a 90 lb. German Shepherd/Doberman mix. We rescued him in 2002. Have tried tons of exercise, interaction, etc. Also tried a zonal bark deterrent, sonar anti-bark collar, shock anti-bark collar, shock anti-bark collar with remote. NOTHING WORKS! Have tried 1, then 2, and finally 3 Benadryl. Our dogs have what I call a "pup cave" under the deck. It’s insulated, heater in the winter, fan in the summer plus a sound machine going on when it’s not right for heater or fan. Wishing I could get him on nightly sleeping meds that would work. We now live on 1/4 of an acre and because it backs onto a golf course (estate sale…great deal…downturn in economy…needed this house) where deer feed, lots for him to wake up for. We both work during the day so can’t keep waking him up to reset his sleep pattern. Tried that in the summer and didn’t seem to help. He has his sister, a lab who is the alpha, for company all day. Suggestions? They’re building a new house now on the side of the fence where his howling usually commences.
We were on three acres before but had to sell that house due to the downturn in the economy. My husband’s business has completely stalled (small custom home builder) and I teach which means leaving at 6 a.m. and usually not getting back until at least 5 p.m.(Having just gone back to work this year, I am one of those whose jobs have been cut due to budget cuts.) We cannot afford doggy day care. Nor can I stay up all night as I’d probably either kill someone in a wreck going to/from school or certainly not be an effective teacher for my students. I guess the shelter is the only way though I seriously doubt that anyone is in the market for a big, black twelve year old howling dog. I have a 4 year old going on 5 year old that I have sole custody of. His Father, has only seen him a couple of times and that was when he was just a month old. So he has’nt seen him sence he was a month old. His Father is not a good person he has been in so much trouble just to tell a bit of it. When my son was under a year old he stole a mans cows and then took them to the market to sell. He helped steal a mans motor cycle and a fourwheeler and sold them. He got cought for stealing the cows but not the other. He has threatend to kill me and my parents evn said he could use a sniper gun and set up down the road from the house and kill my mom. He used the gun to kill a dog that was not causing any problems and to spot light deer he said he even had a silencer for it. He was also with a girl and him and her had been using drugs a nd she died, He had to go for question but nothing ever became of I guess they didnt have enough proof. After all that he got in trouble for saling cocaine to a under cover cop a couple times and having guns and went to prison for 3 years. He just got out aug of 2009 and is no seeking to get visitation with my son. Is there anyway a judge will alow this? I have everything wrote down to take to court with me that he has done and said will any of this help me or will the judge not even care being it was 3 years ago when he done these things and said these things I have a no cantact order against him where he said he would kill me. Where do i go from here and what do i do Im so scared for my son to be around him and his family his mom just got out of prison last year to.. I have never been introuble in my life Please help…..

The deer are lovely animals but they are no respecters of property. They eat everything in sight including grass, flowers and vegetables. While we don’t want to harm them, we sure would like to drive them away. A friend of ours told us that there are various ultrasonic animal repellers but, while they are sometimes effective against dogs and cats, they probably don’t work with deer.

I bought a Yard Guard ultrasonic pest repeller for the deer in my back yard. I know that a dog’s hearing range overlaps a deer’s but I am wondering if it will bother their dogs (they are inside/outside). It would be pointed in my neighbor’s direction, but it has to go about 15′ to my fence, about 10′ more and then they have a fence (both are 6′ wood fences with very small gaps). TIA
I haven’t put the darn thing up YET. I just wanted some opinions on whether the sound range, being interrupted by both fences and possibly a house, could still get to the dogs.
We have deer eating our plants in the yard. Would an ultrasonic animal repeller work, or would it just annoy us and the neighbors’ dogs with the noise?
Also, would it work long-term, or would the deer figure it out?
