neighbors barking dog

there is no law against killing an animal that poses a neusance. by the time the cops show up, the dogs are silent. Should I kill them? Or try to work thinks out when my neighbor isnt drinking?

Another question of concern..?

dog deterrent

So my dogs, incredible outside of the house, impeccably behaved/well trained and just as great at the house.. But when strangers come to our backyard, for example people from the city, such as the meter man, or people to climb and check the telephone poles come, they are incredibly territorial, and display almost aggressive behavior..I have on many occasions stayed back to observe their behavior, and see how they behave when I’m not there, and they just go nuts!

I mean especially from our youngest dog Stone, he displays the most standoffish attitude towards those strangers, with hackles raised which is clearly stemming from an unsure, insecurity of his..

Do I correct this when such people come around? Obviously my dogs don’t understand who these people are, but we humans know who they are. I’m not sure whether I allow them to display this behavior for deterrents of the home when we aren’t around, or correct them. Because I know once I correct my dogs they WILL listen.

What are your thoughts on this, and do any of your dogs act the same way?

dog deterrent

I have checked some of the pet store websites and haven’t found anything. The deterrent could be scent, or electricity, or just an unpleasant feel. We have some outside dogs that get a little insistent when they want to come inside. We don’t want to hurt them–just keep them from damaging the door.

I would appreciate any websites or other sources that I might be able to check out.
<I>, I didn’t give you a violation notice. I gave you a best answer.

About the ASPCA, we live in Pleasanton, Texas. I’m not going to give a street address for obvious reasons. We don’t want to hurt our animals, just keep them from damaging our brand new and very expensive back door. I doubt if the ASPCA would find our actions objectionable–they might even have some good ideas.
<I>, I have also noted that my question and your best answer have been removed. Apparently someone didn’t like any of it. I will, of course, appeal the removal of the question. I can’t guarantee any results by Yahoo, but the removal was not the result of any direct action I took, and I think it is a good and legitimate question.

I chose your answer as best answer because it seemed to illustrate my point. You were abusive, abrasive and resorted to name-calling. This was the behavior I find objectionable.

Perhaps my answer to you may have provoked the removal of my question. I will let Yahoo decide.

ultrasonic dog

My neighbor’s yard is 150 feet away. His dogs bark all day and most of the night. I’d like to mount a sonic bark control speaker which will produce an ultrasonic sound every time the dog barks. That’s supposed to keep the dog quiet. But they are effective up to only 100 feet. I need a system that will work beyond 100 feet. Cost is no object. The dog owners will not cooperate. Thanks for your help.

Mothball scent poisonous to dogs?

dog deterrent

I have a problem with stray cats coming into my yard and knocking over all of my ceramic planters and killing my flowers. I have to make them go away. I read that mothballs are a good deterrent for cats but it may be lethal to them just from inhaling the smell? Or eating it-I’m not sure. To tell you the truth, I really don’t care. I know that sounds mean but I was bitten by one and it ended up costing me 0 and that’s with health insurance. So between biting me and killing my plants and pooping in my yard..I want them gone!
I can either try moth balls or a sprinkler motion sensor that sprays them when they come in the yard but that’s going to cost me another 0.
Mothballs only cost .
My question is, I have 2 dogs, will the mothball scent harm my dogs? I don’t want my dogs getting sick.
And I know you’re going to lecture me about being mean to cats but I’ve tried to be nice to them but they’re costing me tons of money I just can’t afford. I just want them to go away. If you have another solution that isn’t expensive than please let me know. Thank you.
Okay, I was afraid of that. I really didn’t want to harm the cats anyway. There’s got to be another solution.
They are stray cats and I’ve tried adopting one and being nice but it bit me and end up costing me close to a thousand dollars so I’m finished with being nice to them.

How do I get my neighbors dog to quit barking?

neighbors barking dog

Is there some type of invention out there that can be bought to keep it from barking? I have spoken with the owner and apparently they don’t care. Anybody got an idea?

Please refrain from the phrase " kill the dog" I have thought about it and I have come to the conclusion its not the dogs fault. I just want peace and quiet.

Outdoor, collarless deterrents?

dog deterrent

I have a small area between a gate and a closet that leads to the back door.
My dog hurt her paw and calmed down for a few days, long enough to make me think she was going to stop the destructive, door-clawing behavior.
Needless to say, it was a big facade and she has taken up eating my backdoor again after just minutes of being outside. I don’t want to hear any "dogs should be indoor only" BS because not all dogs WANT to be inside, she just wants to be inside at certain times, which aren’t easy to predict. Instead of asking to come in like she used to, she now eats my door and I’m not going to force an indoor/outdoor dog to stay in when she wants out, or vice versa.

Are there any outdoor safe deterrents that I can use in this area to keep her from the door? Like the indoor deterrents that blow puffs of air or emit an ultrasonic sound to keep them from entering an undesirable area.
Problem not solved, genius. Try again.
