My neighbor has been complaining about my small dogs barking when I am not home. I have bought several items, including the Bark Off, which do no good to stop or even cut down on their barking. We live in a high traffic area that is close to a high school. There are teenagers walking by during much of the day and my dogs bark at them. I don’t want to have to get rid of my MinPin and Chihuahua.

I got the Dog Silencer Pro and set it up on our patio. I cannot tell that it is doing anything. According to the instructions it looks like it has to be pointing directly towards the dog in order to work. The instructions said it would not work through fences, walls, windows or doors & it may take up to at least 3 weeks before I notice anything. I have 30 days to replace it.

Although they say it should also stop nearby dogs from barking, I don’t see how that would be possible since all of our dogs have to be inside a fence or our home.

I would appreicate hearing about any experiences you have had, both good and bad, with various products used to stop your dog from barking.

Oh yes, I sure wish the Bark Off had worked; but, I got no results from using it. Does anyone have suggestions as to things I could be doing wrong?

She’s a golden retriever. She barks consantly ALL night long and sometimes during the day too. She’s outside. We have to keep her in a pen at night so she doesn’t get out of the fence. We have tried the bark collars that shock them when they bark. It worked for a few months, but it doesn’t work anymore. Does the ultrasonic bark control work? My mom said I have to make her stop or we will have to either get rid of her or get her vocal cords removed. I need some suggestions. Thank you for reading this!
She CAN’T be inside. We have a bird, and guinea pigs that she would kill. Plus she’s too big and would tear stuff up. And what in the world can happen to her outside??? She’s fine. I just want the barking to stop.
Ok, can you just tell me what I can buy to make her stop barking? I love Angel and I spend time with her. We let her out during the day and we play with her a lot. I’m not getting rid of her. She is barking at other dogs in the neighborhood and the cat, not because she’s lonely.
Ok, she has a big pen that has a big dog house in it. She only stays in there at night and when we’re gone so she doen’t dig out of the fence and dig up the yard. Why can’t golden retrievers be outside? She’s 6 years old and we’ve had her outside her whole life. I don’t think I’m the only person in the world that keeps my dog outside. I don’t see a problem with that. I’m not getting rid of her or removing her vocal cords. I JUST want the barking to stop. I DON’T need people telling me to give her away or bring her inside!!! I want to know if those things you buy really work. Never mind. If you don’t know about the bark control you can buy then please don’t answer. I’m getting really frustrated. I have been looking at several antibark devices to stop the 5-6 dogs my neighbors have in their backyard from ruining my day by waking me up many times while I sleep.

There are several on the market, including a few on EBay that have mixed feedbacks. Most all are automatic ultrasonic units. One did claim to be better because it was manually activated so other noises won’t set it off.

I have worked with the police/court system on this before and got it to stop. Problem now is that after 1 1/2 of the dogs being stored inside their garage, they have built a fence. Now the dogs are in the backyard again barking.
However it is not as constant as when they were kept out there on chains before. It will be considerably harder to go to court with it this time since they don’t bark over 10 minutes straight like before.

They bark now for a few minutes and just about the time you go to sleep again they fire back up.

And no, killing them is not an option.
I have used ear plugs in the past. Generally I roll over and they fall out. I even tried the expensive wax kind that forms to your ear.

I also have run a fan on high. Problem is the barking is so loud it won’t begin to cover it up. Not even close. A TV set on really loud does good to be over top of it.
These aren’t bark collars, they are boxes that emit sound when a dog barks.

If they bark for longer periods I can file a civil suit. I was close a couple years ago when they agreed to put them in their garage.

My lawyer found a VERY similar case where the person in my shoes won and was the only complainer, right here in my state.
Does anybody here have an recommendations on a specific device? There are about 5 on the market that I see.

Ok so i have some neighbors next door and they are renters so they dont technacilly own the house. They have two pitbulls one a female and the other a male and the problem with them is that they let their dogs out early in the morning ( and im not talking about 7 or 6 am im talking about 1:00 am or 12:00 at night but they never let them out during the day unless they are playing with them) or as i stated before late at night when we are trying to go to bed.The yard is right next to my parents room and so it makes it harder for them to go to sleep at night and they are abruplty woken in the morning by the dogs barking. Also whenever we go into our backyard to play or just to get the trash they always come to the fence and start barking at us. One time me and my siblings were playing outside and they barked the whole time we were outside in our backyard. Also it seems that these dogs have had puppies and they are starting to pick up on their parents barking and now whenever i go outside i hear the pair of them and their little puppies making alot more noise than before. We dont talk to these neighbors and just today my mom was going to put water on our backyard and they were going into their house and she said she heard barking in their house but it sounded like they were in a cage but when she went to the backyard she said it sounded like those dogs were let out on purpose and they started barking at her. These people are the most neighborly and they come and go at all hours of the night. we have had to interact with them before and they werent the nicest people to deal with. I also love dogs and love the pitbull breed and i understand that dogs are going to bark at almost anything and everything that they feel could hurt or harm their family but at the same time our other neighbors have a dog and he is just the sweetest thing and we hardly ever hear him bark even when we are outside playing unless we come right up to the fence and he sees us. So after saying all that my question is what kind of action can we take to reduce the barking of the neighbor’s dogs. nothing too extreme please either.
I live in texas and i dont think we have a barking dog hotline but that would be a great suggestion.
Also they are not walking them at these times of night they just let out in their backyard to whatever the heck they want to and i guess the dogs get bored and start to bark. But thanks anyways and i think that it might come to calling the police or the homeowners insurance. Also thank you for respecting your neighbors i wish my neighbors were like you!
But why would you need a fence dog if you live in a middle class suburban neighborhood? its not like we do stuff to the dogs or we do anything to the owners so why the fence dogs?

I just started summer break and I want to sleep in a little because I’m going to start summer in college in a week. But it’s impossible to sleep in because every morning from 9-10, the f*cking neighbors dog barks nonstop. I don’t even know why but it’s so annoying. I don’t want to cause any trouble to my neighbors. I was thinking about using the ultrasonic sound thing and shutting that f*cking dog up, but I have a 9 year old german shepherd myself and I don’t want her to get punished for doing nothing. The neighbors dog barks ALL morning and at us if we are near the fence which is where the tool shed and stuff is. And yet, my dog stays silent. She never barks back or anything. How do I shut this damn dog up?!

Moving to the city with dogs.?
Hi everyone. I will be moving to a small city in northern SK. Can. Its a nice house with a fenced wooden yard. I have 4 dogs who are very well socialized and love people and other dogs. One is a 2 year old intact male cattle dog, one is a 6 month old intact male bull mastiff one is a 12 year old spayed staffy mix and one is a 3 year old rat terrier. I do utility obedience with my cattle dog and personal protection training. All my dogs are very well trained and well behaved. I also have a 6 year old bearded dragon. 2 female spayed indoor only cats and 2 snakes, 2 male pet rats, and breeding/feeder mice. My dogs are fine with cats that are introduced properly however, if a cat is found on our property by my cattle dog or jumps the fence he will catch and kill it, he will come off it as soon as i tell him however, i cant always supervise them when they go outside. They will never be out when i am not home and are all kennel trained. This dog kills foxes and badgers and coyotes so, a cat would be really easy, and he has killed farm cats.

How can i make cats stay out of the yard? is there some sort of deterrent that i can use? Thanks.
Also, what can i expect from dogs when you move? How do you get them back into a routine? What "misbehavior" is acceptable when a big stress like that happens?

I have a 14 month old border collie, he barks all the time at pretty much everything, birds, planes, cats, possums, random noises and cars especially. My neighbours were swearing at us and yelling out other things over the fence but now they have complained to the council. What should I do? I have looked on the internet and apparently citronella collars don’t work on border collies and I have tried an Ultrasonic remote and he just ignored it, it worked for a week but that’s all. I don’t believe in shock collars but i don’t know what else to do. He is a working dog, he has plenty of exercise he runs around a farm for about 8 hours each day and also goes for a walk most nights as well. PLEASE HELP. I don’t want him to go. And I don’t want a 600 dollar fine either.
I have tried telling him off. my dad gets really crabby with him. he has been tied up when he barks, it works for a little bit but when he gets sick of being tied up he starts barking and if you let him off he barks again

I have two very large vegetable gardens, both with fences as tall as I am, with additional chicken wire for extra protection. Yet still, the plants were in the garden for only a couple hours and were eaten to the ground. This is my first year at my new house, at my old house I had completely animal proofed my garden (multiple fence barriers, human & dog hair around borders, etc, and I even made a fishing line contraption which seemed to work extremely well). I *thought* that my new garden was very animal proof (as much as you can, anyway). I also have an incredible amount of snakes in my gardens, to the point that I have to watch where I step, which I thought would be a deterrent to any little critters. Our neighbors cat also spends endless hours snoozing around the fences. We live in a very wooded area, with pretty much every animal you can think of.

Some of the other things I do to keep them out: Marigolds, chives plants, human & animal hair around borders, sprinkling garlic powder & cayenne pepper.

So basically looking for any new suggestions on keeping animals away!

My neighbors little dogs are not going to drive me crazy this summer! They bark and scratch at the fence the whole time I am outside in the back yard. The Home Owner Association is going to send them a letter and they also suggested I contact my local Animal Control.

Has anyone used those electronic devices that send out a noise when dogs bark? Do they work? And what was it? They are not cheap, so I don’t want to keep buying ones to see if they work or not. What worked for you? I would like to buy one to put in my back yard aimed at my neighbor’s fence with the noisy dogs.

I did try to talk to them, but found out they don’t speak English. So I wrote them a letter last year, but nothing seemed to change. Same noise every day!! I’m about to pull my own hair out. Make BBQing not so fun. ):
No, talking to their dogs through the fence is no good. It just makes them rile-up more!
