01/17/10 Another crappy mobile phone video. I’m going out behind the garage to feed a semi-feral homeless cat that I take care of (he’s neutered/vaccinated). The dog can’t see the cat because he’s hiding in the shrubs and won’t come out to eat until I leave. This is what I listen to almost every damn time I go outside.
01/14/10 I’m just standing inside my back door. If I have my back door open this barking echoes down the hallway, into all the rooms downstairs, travels up the stairs and into all the room upstairs. With the back door and all the windows closed I can still hear it in all 11 rooms. I’ve been sleeping in the living room, which is at the farthest corner downstairs, but have still been awakened by this barking.
01/16/10 This is the neighbor’s dog barking. They’ve had him for several years. He used to be inside most of the time but last spring (2009) they exiled him from the house because he is not house trained so I’ve endured this barking since then. I opened the back door this morning and apparently the dog heard my cats playing by the open door and started barking. Needless to say I have not opened the doors or windows much since this annoying dog showed up. I’m standing in kitchen, then walk to the back door. We are remodeling an old, old house and have not got to the kitchen, back room and outbuildings yet, so please excue the ghetto look. The rest of the house is really nice, totally restored from the floor up on both levels, and we plan on doing this back part of the house in the near future, but at this point in time I’d really rather just leave it all and move. Unfortunately I doubt anyone would want to buy it with this dog next door.
Taken on 01/15/2010 In the backyard while dog is barking at me. This is very mild compared to the barking I usually endure when I’m outside; when I get close to the fence he calms down somewhat. Usually the dog starts barking like a psycho as soon as I stepped outside and continues on without stopping for 5-10 minutes after I’ve gone back inside. You can see the dog is a nervous wreck: he can’t be still, keeps doing a weird thing with his mouth, and shakes his head a lot. I think he needs Prozac or something similar. I’m serious.
01/17/10 The neighbor likes to blame my cat for making the dog bark, but as you can see here the cat is just sitting on the step not moving, and the dog can’t even see the cat. If the dog saw the cat, the dog would be having a conniption and the barking rate would be greatly increased. This barking has affected my cat also. He used to “hunt” in the shrubs next to the fence, roll around in the grass, do other cat things in our yard, but now he usually just sits or lays under a gardenia bush at the other side of the yard. If the dog starts barking at him I go out and bring him inside, where he is not happy. He used to spend most of the day outside catting around his yard, but not any more.
