dog deterrent

I’m looking for a solid deterrent/protection trainable dog. I’ve narrowed my search down to either a rottweiler or czech shepherd. I’ve also narrowed it to either this breeding CK’06 Bodo v Schloss Hexental x DIABLESSE v SCHLOSS HEXENTAL from Schloss Hexental in Belgium or a puppy from a litter out of Jinopo. I was also looking at Dargo Aykmar a 1 year old czech shepherd from the same breeder.

From a breed standpoint, I like both the GSD and rottweiler with the rottie taking a slight lead if I were just going to get another pet. I’m looking overseas because there isn’t much offered in the US anymore other then watered down show crap.

Since I can’t afford to make trips to Belgium and Czech to physically look at the dogs. I was hoping someone might know about these kennels/dog breedings and have some input.
Dutchman, I know what you mean, I like the pz lines as well. I know alot of Jinopo studs were sold to various people in the US. If I get one, I’m banking on Jiri’s reputation and others that I’ve talked to who have gotten dogs from him that I would actually get a good pup or like I said I really like the Dargo dog.

How do I keep my dog from escaping?

dog deterrent

My employer has a rottweiler/black lab cross for a guard dog. She is the pride and joy of the shop, we all love her to bits. Lately she has become a bit restless at nights and has found her way out of the yard on numerous occasions. We have approximately 5 acres of land, all fenced, and I have spent hours going over every inch of the fencing to find where she is getting out with no luck. We aren’t able to use an invisible fence or similar deterrents due to the vast area she has to cover while she is "working". Any ideas how to keep her in? I am terrified that she will get out and be hit by a car or attack someone, she is a trained guard dog after all and the city will force you to euthanize a nuisance or overly aggressive animal.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Need help with choosing a dog breed?

dog deterrent

I want to get a dog but im not sure what breed fits my family best. I’ve narrowed it down to 4 breeds.
1. Rottweiler
2. American Staffordshire Terrier
3. American bulldog
4. Lab
I have a small child and i hear that doesn’t usually matter if they are raised together from when the dog is a young puppy, but what I need is a family dog that is ok with spending nights outside from 5pm till 1 am 3 days a week because of my work schedule mainly as a deterrent to intruders when I’m not home to keep my family safe. I have a decent sized fenced in yard and my family is very active and I personally have a firm hand when it comes to dogs having raised many labs and I kind of want to try a new breed and I know the other breeds I’m looking at are a little more aggressive than labs and require a lot more attention due to the types of dogs they are mainly because of how people perceive them. So like I said family dog okay with being outside 3 nights a week but also a dog that won’t think of me as the dominant one and my son as below it in ranking and also has to be able to keep up with our active life style. Also if anyone has a breed that I didn’t mention that would work well for us please feel free to mention.

i was looking at akitas first, but i decided that i didnt want a dog that primitive and aggressive. i just dont think it would be a good choice considering i live with my family, and i dont think my younger sister would do very well with it.

so next i considered getting a rottweiler. less aggressive, but still good protection ability. but i talked with my mom about it extensively, and we decided that it also, wouldnt be a good choice.

then i found the doberman pinscher. seems like a good dog, but kind of hard to find

i was thinking an alaskan malamute. but i was wondering, do they have any protection ability? because really, i would like a dog that could protect my family. and me when im out on a walk. and i can protect myself, but a dog is more of a deterrent. that way it wouldnt be necessary for me to fight.

i have a large build. im 6.4, i work out everyday, and do extensive krav maga training. so having a large breed is not an issue when it comes to being able to physically control it.

im currently reading a 1500 page book on dog psychology. and most of my time is spent researching training methods.

im home schooled, and im not going to college. im looking into becoming a dog behaviorist.

oh, im also working with a friends aggressive Labrador. they live on a large piece of property. the dog got out, and killed 3 chickens. so, ive been working with him for a couple weeks, and i can now walk him right past chickens without him jumping or pulling. he dosent even bark.

also, i had let them out in a fenced part of the yard (them meaning the lab and another dog they have) i called them back, the lab came running right away to my side. the other ignored me. i looked down at the lab, and he was looking at me. i said "go get her shadow" and pointed at her. he took off running, and dragged her to my feet and held her there. it happened twice. i was just like.. "cool beans"

sorry, that was pretty irrelevant, but it was a funny story and i thought i would share.

well, thats about it. sorry, this was really long, but i wanted you to know some about me before you made any suggestions. and i would love to hear any stories you have about your experience with the breed your suggesting. or just a story about you and your dog.

thanks so much for reading all this. and for your answer
rayven, ive talked with my mom and she said i can get any dog i really want. and i understand the difference between pets and guard dogs. i was told by someone that they would protect you if needed. i was doubting that, especially after the research i did. just thought i would ask
another thing rayven, the reason i decided not to get a rotty was BECAUSE of my family. im talking with them all about what they want in a dog
J. christ, you have to have given some of the best advice ive ever gotten on here. your completely right about protection dogs. you helped me see things much clearly. thank you very much. wise words

Good guard/attack dog breed?

dog barking deterrent

I’m looking for a good breed to guard my property from intruders. My house/ garage has been broken into a few times and my Chow, while intimidating with all it’s barking and growling doesn’t really do much. I’ve had rottweilers and pitbulls before, which both did the job really nicely. Unfortuanetly, we now have a city ordinance banning pitbulls.

I was thinking about another rottweiler, but there were a few more breeds I’ve heard good things about and got curious. Neapolitan mastiffs come to mind. Also have heard positive stuff about German Shepherds and Dobermans. The bigger the dog the better, I can handle exercising and socializing the dogs just fine, it’s just a matter of picking the best deterrent.

Cyclist’s revenge on dogs…. I can’t wait for an irresponsible dog owner to let their dog attack me….:-) This is a fantastic humane air spray.. a lot louder and than it sounds here..

I need suggestions on whether or not a german shepherd or rottweiler would be the best choice for an all around family/deterrent dog. I have a local PSA and SchH club that I want to try out, but I’m definitely not on planning on creating a national level competition dog. Just looking for something that will settle into the house with my fiance and me and that has strong protective instincts and skills which can further be developed through training.
